Canucks Autism Network 2019 Pro-Am
From a personal perspective, the 2020 Canucks Autism Network Pro-Am will include two passions close to my heart; the sport of hockey and helping children.
Like many other Canadian kids, I grew up playing and loving the game of hockey. Early morning wake up calls for practice, neighborhood street hockey games and Hockey Night in Canada on Saturday nights with Ron and Don; provided me with many fond memories that shaped my love for the game.
This tournament has given me the opportunity to help put together the PAFN Stars. Our team will consist of friends with who have been past or current teammates and share my love for the game. As an adult, the game of hockey has treated us well. It has provided us with the platform to which we have shared so many fond memories, a lifetime of laughter and a bond that will last forever.
I am excited and proud to be supporting the Canucks for Autism Network Pro-Am tournament as my eight year old nephew Mikael, was diagnosed with Autism at the age of three. Mikael is kind, loving and always brings me a smile every time I am in his presence.
As a father of two young children, I understand the meaning of sacrifice and the extent a parent will go in order to benefit the health and welfare of their child. Unfortunately, some parent’s sacrifices are far greater than others. Mikael’s parents, Jennifer and Peter are an inspiration to me and serve as an incredible example of what sacrifices some parents are willing to make for their child.
Some of the demands placed on a family who has a child with Autism include; immense financial strain, countless hours of research to help understand their child’s needs, followed by endless hours advocating for their child. Through our close friends, I have witnessed these sacrifices first hand and they are a huge part of my inspiration to be part of this cause.
Our games will be held on January 25/26th at UBC and it would be great if you could come join us and cheer us on.
With an enrgetic and passionate team assembled accompanied with your support, I know we will help make this a memorable and succesful experience.
